Fun ft Janelle Monae- We Are Young

I absolutlety love the acoustic version of this song, and in manyways, it seems to generate so much more emotion then the original. It also really shows the talent of these two up and coming; vocal artists.

Give me a second I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom
getting higher than the empire state
my lover she is waiting for me
just across the bar
My seat's been taken by some sunglasses
asking 'bout a scar
and I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you're trying to forget
but between the drinks and subtle things
the holes in my apologies
you know I'm trying hard to take it back
so if by the time the bar closes
and you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home

Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
than the sun

Tonight
we are young
so let's set the world on fire
we can burn brighter
than the sun

Now I know that I'm not
all that you got
I guess that I
I just thought maybe we could find a ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let's raise a toast
Cause I found someone to carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let's the set the world on fire
we can burn brighter
than the sun

Tonight
We are young
so let's set the world on fire
we can burn brighter
than the sun

Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight
Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight

The moon is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight
The angels never arrived
but I can hear the choir
so will someone come and carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
we can burn brighter
than the sun

Tonight
We are young
so let's set the world on fire
we can burn brighter
than the sun

So if by the time the bar closes
and you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home tonight

Little Dragon- Twice

An icredibly beautifully designed music video; and an even more beautiful song.

"Twice"

Twice I turn my back on you
I fell flat on my face but didn't loose
Tell me where would I go
Tell me what led you on I’d love to know

Was it the blue night
Gone fragile
Was it both men
In wonder steady gone under
Was it the light ways
So frightening
Was it two wills
One mirror holding us dearer now

Thought I had an answer once
But your random ways swept me along
Colossal signs so I got lost
With so many lovers singing soft

Was it the blue night
Gone fragile
Was it both men
In wonder steady gone under
Was it the light ways
So frightening
Was it two wills
One mirror holding us dearer now

The Antlers- Kettering

Don't be fooled by the rhythmically subtle, yet quaint opening to this beautiful song. The hypnotic combination of the eclectic use of sound (3 minutes in there seems to be a resemblance in sound, similar to that of a helicopter) and Peter Silberman's placid yet elusive vocals, make this a truly magical song. The Antlers; renowned for their narrative musicianship, create an open journey that is bound to reach the core of any listener; with it subtle build up in dynamics and texture through the progression of the song.

"Kettering"
I wish that I had known in
That first minute we met
The unpayable debt
That I owed you

Because you'd been abused
By the bone that refused you
And you hired me
To make up for that

And walking in that room
When you had tubes in your arms
Those singing morphine alarms
Out of tune

They had you sleeping and eating
And I didn't believe them
When they called you
A hurricane thundercloud

When I was checking vitals
I suggested a smile
You didn't talk for a while
You were freezing

You said you hated my tone
It made you feel so alone
So you told me
I had to be leaving

But something kept me standing
By that hospital bed
I should have quit but instead
I took care of you

You made me sleep all uneven
And I didn't believe them
When they told me that there
Was no saving you

Johnny Flynn & Laura Marling- The Water

Two of the most prominent and talented artists in the London Folk scene collaborate together to create this incredibly beautiful and uplifting melody. The combination of contrasting female and male vocals powerfully merges together creating a subtle fusion of untainted and wholesome easy listening.

"The Water"
All that I have is a river
The river is always my home
Lord, take me away
For I just cannot stay
Or I'll sink in my skin and my bones

The water sustains me without even trying
The water can't drown me, I'm done
With my dying

Please help me build a small boat
One that'll ride on the flow
Where the river runs deep
And the larger fish creep
I'm glad of what keeps me afloat

The water sustains me without even trying
The water can't drown me, I'm done
With my dying

Now deeper the water I sail
And faster the current I'm in
That each night brings the stars
And the song in my heart
Is a tune for the journeyman's tale

The water sustains me without even trying
The water can't drown me, I'm done
With my dying

Now the land that I knew is a dream
And the line on the distance grows faint
So wide is my river, the horizon a sliver
The artist has run out of paint

Where the blue of the sea meets the sky
And the big yellow sun leads me home
I'm everywhere now, the way is a vow
To the wind of each breath by and by

The water sustains me without even trying
The water can't drown me, I'm done
With my dying

Ben Howard- Gracious

Growing up in a society today, where it becomes frequently harder to find uniqueness in anything within a continuously experienced  'been there, seen that' culture, there are moments in life when you stumble upon something truly magical that represents the ability and power to connect with something.

What i personally love about Ben Howard; particularly in his song 'gracious' is his ability to metaphorically capture the beauty in stillness and isolation filling it with melodic echoes of his pure and individual voice. When i listen to Ben Howard, i'm brought back to memories of a child staring out the car window in the darkened light watching the desolated English country side flicker before my eyes embracing the shear beauty of  untouched nature and solitude, which for me is exactly what Ben Howard's voice and melodies convey; and coincidentally as frequently stated in his online biographies; 'making melodic rootsy folk music, with progressively darker lyrics'.

"Gracious"

How would you know?
When everything around you's changing like the weather,
A big black storm.
And where'd you turn to?
Or hide a ghost, a shadow at the most, would you let me know?
Cause I don't want to,
To trouble your mind with the childish design of how it all should go.
But I love you so,
When it all comes clear, when the wind is settled, I'll be here, you know.

Cause you said ours were the lighthouse towers
The sand upon that place
Darling I'll grow weary, happy still
With just the memory of your face

Gracious goes the ghost of you
And I will never forget the plans and the
Silhouettes you drew here and
Gracious goes the ghost of you
My dear

How would you know?
When everything around you's bruised and battered
Like the cold night storm.
And where would you turn to?
Or hide a ghost, a shadow at the most, would you tell me so?
Cause I, I adore you so
When it all comes clear, the wind is settled, I'll be here, you know.

Cause you said ours were the lighthouse towers
The sand upon that place
Darling I'll grow weary, happy still
With just the memory of your face

Gracious goes the ghost of you
And I will never forget the plans and the
Silhouettes you drew here and
Gracious goes the ghost of you
My dear

Gracious goes the ghost of you
And I will never forget the plans and the
Silhouettes you drew here and
Gracious goes the ghost of you
My dear

Sigur Rós - Dauðalogn

Being a huge fan of Sigur Rós prior to Dauðalogn being featured in an episode of The Vampire Diaries, i found the use of this song was absolutely perfect in accordance to the ongoings of the scene. Dauðalogn for me; represents an under-water like serenity that not only is incredibly hypnotic, but it also seems to capture an eclectic varieties of emotions, such as serenity and euphoria, which seems strange as they can be perceived as two conflicting emotions. Dauðalogn is definitely one to be added to a 'sleep playlist' or any of Sigur Rós's music for that matter.

Heimur hljóðlátur
Hreyfist ei hár á höft
Hljómar grafaþögn
Engin vaknaður
Engin taktur hraður
Algert dauðalogn

Inn á við held ég
Viðar glætur birta bál
Einn með mér sjálfum
ég anda inn, anda frá

Við áttan er greið
Ferðamönnum og mér
Fyllir fjallasal
Klettar bergmála
Bergmálar í höfðum
Úti dauðalogn

Inn á við held ég
Viðar glætur birta bál
Einn með sjálfum mér
Nú sit með ¿...? undir föt
Morguni mættur
með sitt logn á nóttstorm
¿...? gárast yfir borðin
Og nú brjótum við dauðalogn

Here is also a translation of the lyrics, which for me has made the song all the more powerful and meaningful, making me fully appreciate the outstanding talent of Sigur Rós. Furthermore, regardless of the understanding of the Icelandic lyrics, the message conveyed through the writing of this song; precisely depicts the exact emotion  and story which Jónsi Birgisson
conveys.

The world silent
No movement in the high sea
It sounds like a grave's silence
There is none awake
There is no rapid tempo
Total dead calm

Yet the noble believe
People may show hope
I see through the calm
All towing on the centuries

We realize is easy
Tourists and me
Fill the mountains
This echoes
Echoes in the heads
There is dead calm

Yet the noble believe
People may show hope
Through the flames I see
Now a dark boat wonder into the hope
The morning rain
All its calm ripples in place
And the seagull attacks in
And the seagull breaks into the dead calm
